Feasibility study into the possibility of developing a
community owned green energy scheme
~
Teversal, Stanton Hill and Skegby Neighbourhood Forum have accepted a government grant for a feasibility study into the possibility of developing a community owned green energy scheme that would provide long term benefits within the community and a sense of ownership for our own energy supply.
~
The study, carried out by independent consultants Savi Energy, will lay out a plan to establish a Community Energy Company with a view to implementing low carbon energy technologies to be sited in suitable land and / or potential rooftops (including industrial buildings) providing clean electricity to contribute to a net zero future for the community. The most likely technology will be solar panels but the study will examine a number of different technologies from wind to battery storage. The study will look at potential sites across Teversal, Stanton Hill and Skegby and we are very keen to hear from local land owners who would be interested in earning a return by offering locations for potential projects. In addition if you know of land or buildings in the Forum area that you think could be suitable, please let us know.
~
The most likely form that the Community Energy Company will take is some form of Co-operative, Community Benefit Scheme, or similar, with shareholders who invest having a share of the income from the energy generated. Anyone living or working in the area will be entitled to join the Community Energy Company and join the working group that is now overseeing the project.
~
Provision will be made in the study for public consultation so that residents and businesses can have their say over the options considered and their siting before any plan has been agreed.
Regular updates will be posted on the Forum website, tssneighbourhoodplan.org, as well as on social media.
