Minutes of the Forum Meeting held on Tuesday, 14^th July 2026,
Healdswood Community Centre, Mansfield Road, Skegby, NG17 3EE

1.    Attendance.

2.    Minutes. 

The minutes of the previous meeting were agreed as an accurate record.    
Matters Arising - there were no matters arising

3.    Treasurers Report.

The only change since the last meeting was the receipt of a donation of £200 from the Rotary Club of Sutton-in-Ashfield Community Action Fund, to be used for the additional public liability insurance for the Stanton Hill Rainbow garden.

4.    Reports from Working Groups

Planning & Environment

Friends of Stanton Hill (FOSH) – Andrew Jenkins

The Co-op garden has suffered with the recent heatwave(s) and will need some replanting in due course.
The mural for the wall behind the garden is expected to be started by the end of July, ADC bureaucracy notwithstanding.

The Vine Tree event in June went very well with a lot of visitors to the Forum information stall.

The recent Rainbow Garden community day was well attended, with progress made in clearing the site.
~
Some traffic improvements on Stanton Hill High Street have been requested, including speed indicators and repainting the zebra crossing – Doug Edwards will email Cllr Mason with the requests.
~
The proposed temporary closure of Fackley Road was raised, but there is no information on why complete closure is required, rather than single lane traffic with lights.  Since the meeting new dates for the closure have been announced and then cancelled!

Heritage – Lynn Henstock

The temporary closure of Footpath 35 has been lifted and the footpath is now completely open.

The owner of Whiteboro Cottage has asked for support in their planning application for additional pet related facilities at the property. The Forum itself does not comment in support of planning applications, but individual Forum members are perfectly at liberty to comment on applications in a personal capacity.

Climate Change & Sustainability – Andrew Jenkins

Food Share continues to go well but new volunteers are always welcome.

The recent meeting of the Stanton Hill Bus Service Improvement Plan was attended by members of East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA).
It was noted that the EMCCA mayor plans to work with local private bus companies, rather than moving to a franchise system.

The five proposals from the SHBSIP are under consideration, but there is currently no new money available.
However, the £106,000 S106 money for bus services from the Teversal Green development off Fackley Road will go to the EMCCA, to be used for improving the frequency of the 417 service. It is not yet clear when that money will become available.
~
EMCCA are interested in the idea of public transport between the two Brierley Park medical surgeries in Skegby and Huthwaite - there is a potential for using an on-demand community bus service.

The next meeting of the SHBSIP group is on December 10^th, with a follow-on meeting with EMCCA staff on 14^th January, both in Brand Court.

The Forum has organised a showing of the People’s Emergency Briefing film on Wednesday July 22^nd in Teversal Manor Room, from 7pm.

5.   Community Energy Project (CEP) – Andrew Jenkins

Our application for stage 2 funding is still on hold pending the transfer of funding management to the new Great British Energy

6.    Teversal Repair Café - Geoff Snare

The Repair Café events continue to run on the first Saturday of each month at the Teversal Visitor Centre. Our team of volunteers remains rather small, but all are very keen and turn out each month, but we are always looking for additional volunteers. The next event is on August 1st.

7.    Any Other Business

Flytipping was again raised as a major concern by local residents and the Forum web page showing all the local incidents of Flytipping was circulated to meeting attendees.

Just prior to the meeting, it had been discovered that Ashfield District Council had decided to sell the freehold to the Healdswood Community Centre. This had come as news to all members of the Forum since there had not appeared to have been any consultation on this decision. Cllr Mason agreed to investigate.
(Update: Cllr Mason has arranged for the decision to be called in for wider review and the Forum will attend the review meeting, once the date has been announced)

Ashfield show is being held on August 7^th/8^th/9^th – although we had a stall at the show last year, it was felt this was not a good use of people’s time, so we will not attend the show this year.

8.    Next Meeting.

The next Forum meeting, will be held on Wednesday October 7^th, 2026 from 7.00 pm, in the Manor Room, Buttery Lane, TeversalVillage, NG17 3JN

Attendees, in particular Cllr Cathy Mason, were thanked for their input to the meeting which closed at 8.35 pm.

The Forum is recognised by Ashfield District Council as the representative body for Skegby, Stanton Hill and Teversal
and Forum working groups are dealing with a number of issues affecting our area.
Anyone who lives or works in Teversal, Stanton Hill and Skegby is entitled to be a member of the Forum and attend its meetings.
