Our Neighbourhood
The area covered by Our Neighbourhood Plan falls with within the boundary of Ashfield District Council and is situated on the Nottinghamshire / Derbyshire border adjacent to the market town of Sutton-in-Ashfield and close to the M1 motorway. The area incorporates the rural village of Old Teversal, the semi-rural villages of Teversal and Stanton Hill and a large part of the village of Skegby. This map shows the full extent of the area.
The area is over 1,500 hectares in size, with a population approaching 10,000 and around 5,000 dwellings, the majority of which are located within the urban parts of the area.
The area is very diverse - at one extreme there is low grade terraced housing the majority of which is owned by absentee landlords with a struggling high street and at the other, one of Ashfield District Council's few conservation areas with a wealth of listed buildings. Approximately 85% of the area is classed as rural, providing easy access to open countryside, with two country parks.
