The Teversal, Stanton Hill & Skegby Neighbourhood Planning Forum was set up under the Localism Act, which received Royal Assent on November 15th, 2011.
The Act introduced new rights and powers to allow local communities to shape new development by coming together to prepare neighbourhood plans.
A Neighbourhood Planning forum is a community group that is designated to take forward neighbourhood planning in areas without a town or parish council. It can use new neighbourhood planning powers to establish general planning policies for the development and use of land in a neighbourhood.
In December 2017, the Teversal, Stanton Hill & Skegby Neighbourhood Plan was formally accepted by Ashfield D.C. This followed a referendum of residents in the Plan area, in which an overwhelming number of voters were in favour of the Plan.
